In Europe, they've been paying prices like that for YEARS.

If you're unhappy, write to your elected officials and DEMAND some relief. Short-term solutions would be actually drilling for our own oil (gasp!). Building new refineries. Build more nuclear power plants. Actually ALLOW the wind farms.

The environmental movement (which, let's face it, tends to be leftist) needs to shoulder it's fair share of the blame for our current situation - but then, so do we, the people. We have known we need to wean off foreign oil for decades, yet NO ONE has done anything about it. We elect these people to office, then do nothing further but sit back and complain about the job they're doing. Take the bull by the horns. Start a petition. Do SOMETHING. But don't just sit there and whine. We are ALL very fortunate in this country. The poorest Americans would be considered pretty damned well off in a lot of places on this earth.

Finally, freedom comes with responsibility. If we, the people are unwilling to accept that responsibility, we have no one at all to blame but ourselves.

there is a point at which people will drastically alter their transportation behaviors.

at that point, the oil companies lose a bundle - and ask for a federal bailout.
