If you are a young person and you can wait like 2 years. The best place I have ever been is Bethesda, Maryland. It is mini new york without pollution, they are putting up lots of new Condos. But it is really clean and upper class. Its 8 blocks from DC. Theres lots of nice stores but 2 blocks away you get into suburbia, with sooo many trees. Its the nicest place evr! I almost forgot, it is notorious for the most Restaurants per capita. Check it out! --- http://www.bethesda.org/ Great weather and about 20 minutes from outdoors adventure including carder rock and the Potomac!

Oregon is a great place to live. It is expensive, but if you live on Long Island, it won't be a big shock. We have a reputation for always being rainy, but that is largely not true. We have very hot summers and fairly mild winters. It is always green, the people are friendly and tolerant, there are jobs and great schools, lots of culture and arts, great restaurants...Check it out!

If you like outdoor sports, try Chattanooga, TN. Kayaking, cave diving (spelunking), hiking, mountain climbing, hang gliding, etc.
