I really like that idea, its original. Who cares what everyone else thinks if its tacky or not? You're giving to others during the holiday season, doesnt matter if its pets or people. Giving to others who arent as fortunate as us is all that matters!!

No I don't think it is tacky.
I think it is a great ideal.
The town I live in has been trying for years to get an animal shelter built. Land was donated but the neighbors complained that it would be too close to their houses.
And a lot of the major people in the town call stores that donate to the project to get them to stop with donating.
I wish the people in this town cared half as much as you do.

I think that's an excellent idea. Hardly anyone ever does charity donations for pets when they are just as deserving as people. I don't see why that is tacky at all. I commend you for giving them a thought.
I would also request other items such as cat litter, beds, etc.

It's not tacky at all. Just put a short note on the wedding invitation stating that in lieu of gifts you would like guests to make a donation to the charity you have chosen. I think your guests will appreciate it because it saves them from having to search for a gift.

I also think it's a great idea, and this way you don't have so much leftover food afterwards. Just include a little something in the invitation, like, "We'll provide the people food if you bring a can of pet food for the local shelter."

I think its a good idea just remember our pets and how cozy they our in our homes and think about all the animal in the cold dark shelters I am not saying its bad but if they had a home it would be so much better and food for the pets is even alot better Merry Christmas!

I don't think that's too tacky. Just include that portion in your invitations and perhaps more information on that specific pet rescue organization?

Personally I think it's a great idea. I don't know how receptive other people would be to it, though. The general population tends to forget about non-human causes during the holidays (which, of course, is an even better reason to do it!!)

Really lovely idea! I agree though that maybe non-animal lovers (Bah!) would not be so into it. You could make sure to include suggestions such as cat/dog toys, cat litter and blankets as well as food perhaps?
Great idea though.
