Our federal government has way more power than was afforded it by the Constitution. The majority of power is supposed to reside with the states. Congress and Judges have moved the balance of power to the federal while giving themselves a golden parachute and a huge paycheck. They no longer need citizen approval for increasing spending. That will in-turn cost more in taxes. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but that is taxation without representation. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Civil war is not too far off.

Yes I think the government has to much control over us. But no I do not think we will be headed towards a civil war.... why "bite the hand that feeds you?"
also, we can't get more than 1/3 to 40% of the population to vote, the american people are to apathetic to vote, let alone fight a civil war.

Yes, the US Government has too much control over American citizens (I don't care about illegal immigrants).
No, we are not heading towards a civil war, but, we are becoming more divisive in our cultural attitudes. Too many people are saying "don't do that", while the other half is saying "don't take away my rights". Civil war, no; civil unrest, yes, I see that occuring much more in the future.

It is true that the government has too much control, however, it's kind of funny that you would think there would be a civil war. This isn't like the 1860's, we would be split between wimpy liberals with no guns and conservatives with guns. Also, since conservatives make up 85% of the armed forces, the "war" would be over in a few hours.

Under the Constitution, as prefaced by the Declaration of Independence, "when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
The terms for that would be "revolution" or "rebellion".
A rebellion is a proper way to dismantle an improper government under the Constitution and the purpose is to exercise the peoples rights over those rights the government claims for itself.
A "Civil War" is a fight between to factions who wish to use the power of a government of their choosing, preferably via a vote, but via bullets if necessary, over the other factions.
The role of proper civilized government in a "Civil War" is to intervene between the factions at war and stop it, and not become part of nor the power behind the faction of its choosing. A government that did that would be a worthy target for rebellion under the Constitution.
A government likely to become a tyrant is one that recognizes its power is derived from a majority instead of the Constitution. Can you imagine the consequences to the Constitution if this current government believed it had the backing of say 98 % of the population?
Politicians on the whole tend to believe that the more people who vote for them the more power the get. Their actions and votes are determined more often by "popular" opinion than by "personal" conviction. What they are told is right by others rather than what they know is right.
Oddly enough, in America politicians base their votes on a slim sampling, people who vote. Polls are routinely limited to registered voters or "people most likely to vote".
They do not know what the majority of nonvoting Americans are really thinking and they know a lot of them have guns.
Hence, they are forced to "moderate" their views and if what I'm seeing in DC represents moderation, that tells me all I need to know about the factions vying for domination over our Constitution.
I view a coming "civil war" as an open invitation to rebellion where the people en mass gang up on the warring factions and the government that brought it upon us by failing to honor the charter of its own existence!
Most people currently are obliged to pay the "protection fee" in the form of the personal "income tax" so long as it keeps the guys with the guns away, but someday...........someday.

Not headed towards civil war but yes government has too much control. People who are not voting are allowing the other 50% who vote twice as much power. People just don't seem to care anymore.

Yes i think they have way to much... although i don't think it is a civil war we would be heading for if the control continues. I think it would be more accurate to say police state.

Here's what my friend told me when we went to Taco Bell, and I'm not sure I agreed, but it still scared the crap out of me.
"The truth is this... the dollar will inevitably collapse, and there's nothing we can do about it. Our government has ruined our economy on purpose. In fact, once our economy collapses, our global I.O.U's no longer exist.
"It is then that we will be forced to join Mexico and Canada into a North American Union, with one currency. Everything's been planned out... ....our government has done this on purpose, they never truly cared about America, all they cared about was wealth, power, and absolute control."
