There is 5 oz of water in my baby's bottle, but by the time I add formula, it is 6 oz. So how much is he really drinking, 5 or 6 oz? Its really important that I keep track of how much he eats, because he's a preemie, and doesn't much care for eating. Thanks.

He was 4 1/2 months early, that's why I have to be so careful, because gaining weight and proper nutrition is so important. And...for you breast feeding nazis out there...I breast fed for 8 weeks, and couldn't do it any longer because I couldn't produce milk due to him being so early and the fact that I had to feed him through a tube, which also decreased my supply. Believe me, you can't say anything to me about how much better breast milk is than formula that I don't already know, but when you can't do it you can't do it. He is now 5 months old, that's why he is drinking so much.

ok....put the water in the bottle first one scoop per two ounces, when you make a 4 oz bottle there will be 5oz after mixing because the formula adds wieght to the water and it is actually 5 oz. preemies should drink breastmilk however i understand some people can't breastfeed i know i didnt produce milk at first and then i develpoed clots so i wont touch that issue...

I thought the same thing, but the formula tin says fill w/ 6 ounces of water...so I go by the water level before the formula is added.

But how old is your baby? My daughter was born 3 1/2 weeks early & we didn't have to keep that much of a track & she didn't start w/ the 5-6 ounces until like 3 months

That confused me too...I would go with what the measure after the bottle is prepared. but why are you feeding a preemie 5 or 6 oz??? My son eats that amount per feeding now and he's 2 months.

If you have 6 ounces of water, and add the appropriate scoops of formula, your baby is drinking/eating 6 ounces of formula.

you are adding the water first, 5 oz, the only reason it is going to 6 is because you are putting the formula in which is weight, so its raising the water. ADDED(its like filling a bath tub people, fill it up to a level, then get it, the water will rise, dosnt mean there is anymore water in it, its the weight of your body getting in. works like that with anything.
PERSONALY::: i always put the formula in first then added the water after (and yes, went up the extra ounce)
