Your parents are probably just worried about your future, becoming a star is hardly a realistic goal unless you have a very big talent. I'm not surprised your mom doesn't want to be like Britney spears, she missed out on a childhood because she wanted to be a "star" and look at her now. Being famous isn't all its cracked up to be, you have to cope with pressure, press and invasion of your personal life. Unless you are an extremely talented singer I would put that dream aside for now, maybe just do it as a hobby and look at more realistic goals. There are probably millions of normal people out there who are good singers but that doesn't mean they will sell records.

Well, if you are doing it to become a STAR! then you are doing it for the wrong reason. No one deserves to be famous for their music unless they want a career in music! That doesn't mean becoming a star; it means sharing your gifts with the world and making some money doing it. You will end up like Britney Spears if all you're doing it for is the fame. And honestly, we don't need anymore Pop Princesses...it's getting old.

Well what age are you? When you turn 18, if you move out then she will have no parental authority over you, and get an agent. If you are really good, then you will do well. I am not trying to make you mad or disappoint you but the chances of you becoming a famous singer are 1 in a million

U don't wanna b a teeny pop princess... They usually don't last long in the music business (see Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Mandy Moore). Stay in school, work hard, and do ur music thing on the side. Once ur 18 ur mom can't keep u from doing it. And by then, u will have ur skills more refined. Good luck!

follow your dreams..... you don't want to look back and say why did i let go of my talents?! you should talk to your mom very nicely and just let her know that that's your passion and its a part of you and that you would be really happy if she could just accept that. not everyone ends up like britney. if your mom is a good person i'm sure she taught you well and you can say that to her. good luck

just do it any ways...learn to play even if its just to make you happy and then start writting music and send it in...always keep and open mind that things might not work out (don't just make that your whole life i mean) but if it does happen then you can tell your mom hahahah lol
you gotta do what makes you happy in the end

i hope to hear ya on the radio some day! but please don't end up like brit

yeah the unfortunate thing is that when you're a teenager, that parents never seem to understand. But as you get older and more mature you will soon realize that mom knew what she was talking about all along.

I'm all for one following their dreams. HOWEVER, make sure that you have something to fall back on. There are lots of good singers/songwriters/musicians out there who NEVER make it big. Just remember that.
