In the event that my rent check does not clear, my apartment complex charges a $250 NSF fee on top of my rent. is this legal?

um yeah. if my bf;s work screws up and forgot to pay him so his check is delayed by a week, and i;'ve already wrote the rent check its tough luck. so quite being jerks about writing the check, and you put your @%$%# noses back down.

wow, I have never heard of a NSF fine that high, legal, I have no idea, better check around.

Yes, it is legal, and this unusually large fee is in place to firmly convince residents that they should NOT issue a check which will not clear the bank.

Such fees are easily avoided by insuring that your rent payment is on time, and in the form of payment which will not cause a funds deficiency.

You are breaking the law by writing a check without funds to cover it. They can prefer charges against you - a large fee is probably better than that.

That is pretty ridiculous. Normally it is supposed to be the costs they incurred to collect on the check.

Best bet, don't bounce a check and it won't matter.
