Would you cut him off or just be patient and deal with his attacks (verbal and physical) consoling yourself that he's not in his right mind, and that after all, he's still your brother?

I use to live in Scottsdale, Arizona and there was this one gas station by my house that had picnic tables outside. Well that is nice and all, but at all hours of the day the bums would come and sit at the tables. One day there was a woman there and she was sitting all alone and talking very loudly to someone who was not there.

When i got back into my car, I asked my cousin to put me away if I ever got so crazy as to sit outside of a gas station and have a conversation with myself.

She said "I would never do that, I would sit right beside you and pretend you were talking to me!"

So just remember he is your brother. You need to love people for the person they are!

Deal with him on a very limited basis, after all, we are still family. Still, it is a struggle to be patient. I would never allow him to hit me or abuse me physically either. He stops or I call the police.

The motto for Father Flanagan's Boys Town comes to mind....."He ain't heavy Father, he's my brother".
I don't think he should be allowed to abuse you, but if we are truly our brother's keeper then it would be wonderful if you can stick with him & do everything possible to get him the help he needs! Best of luck, Sweety!
