Those of us who remember are very grateful to the USA for the help we received, and to the American boys who gave their lives to help us. I doubt very much that they would approve of your attitude or your boastful manner. Shame sir Shame.

There can be no question of doubt the contribution the Americans made to the outcome of the war let us not forget they lost thousands of men and women, our fighting services were stretched and doing a magnificent job, also suffering great losses.it was a combined effort that brought sanity back in place of insanity

This is just a bit of nostalgia because Remembrance day is coming up.
I don't care that it's not even a question, but I certainly feel that you are taking it far too seriously!
I have known many Americans and worked with them, I have read most of the dialogue between Brits and Americans on this forum.
The vast majority of exchanges here are tongue in cheek, the rest can be ignored.
Now you may be correct to think that at this time of year we should not be debating who did what in the war, but we should be remembering (and respecting) our lost kin.
We should also be remembering that both the Brits and the Americans were part of the allies.
As far as I am concerned we Brits have more in common with America than we have with any EU country.
When I see Brits on here slagging off the French over the war, I don't see that as a bit of a slanging match. I find it vindictive and uncalled for, many French folk esp' the Resistance movement died fighting the nazis, they should be respected.
Here endeth the lesson!!

I totally agree. I wasn't alive then, but in History I learnt all about it, and I know that America helped us (for which I am grateful, because if they hadn't, Hitler would have taken us over.) I think that it's an insult to the memories of the soldiers to be asking for gratitude, because I am sure that those men saw it as their duty, and didn't do it to get gratitude or heroic status. I know that very few people are like these shameful individuals, and the people demanding gratitude are not worth the time. I'm grateful to ALL soldiers who help us, regardless of their nationality, because if it wasn't for their bravery, I dread to think what the world would be like today.

A question came up a little while ago, which I think was from an American going on about us Brits. I was going to give him an answer but decided not to. Quite why the Americans think that we should be grateful for them helping us win the war beats me. If Hitler had beaten us before the Americans joined the war they would of been next.

I agree with you, the problem is that the Americans think they can take away what we did in the war

What we went through during the war they wouldn't have a clue take what happened on 9/11 and have that happen everyday then you might understand

Our people worked hard everyday to protect this country and the western world, of course America helped us but don't try and take away what we did with stupid comments about if it wasn't for us you would be speaking German!

It is un called for and disrespectful to the people that lived and served through the war!

I am from the UK, love America, love visiting their country, love all American people that I have met thus far. I do find there is a lot of petty squabbling and back biting on here between Brits and Americans and I just dont understand why? I look at it like this, it is just a minority, a small percentage of people who want to incite hatred and nastiness against others on Yahoo, Americans who think they are better than Brits and Brits who think they are better than Americans!. Its pathetic and all a bit sad really. I just ignore it and know that I am in the majority on here!

I do not have to like Americans (actually I rather do)
I do not have to like the present US Government (I do not)
I will differ with respect on American attitudes to WW ll and Europe in general
But I find that some or indeed much of the anti-Americanism on Answers is discourteous, vicious un-called for, naive and infantile , fuelled only by jealousy

i say tell him to get onto his congressman to hurry up on the aid they promised to the darfur crisis.

Call To Action For Darfur
Body: No Funding, No Peace

Funding delays in Congress are threatening to hold up the long-awaited U.N.-A.U. peacekeeping mission to Darfur. We cannot sit by and allow budget battles to get in the way of peacekeepers.

Tell Congress to approve this funding for Darfur ASAP.

I don't know which American you are referring to, but I would think he said what he said because of some of the anti-american comments on here from people in the UK - just a handful of them - but they get pretty ugly at times
