If his eyes are red, he probably has pinkeye/conjunctivitis. Saline won't hurt him--it's just salt and water. It'd be out of his eyes by now. Take him to the doctor-he probably has pinkeye or he has allergies. You don't get runny eyes with a cold.

the only time that my son (he's 14 months) had red runny eyes was when he had pink eye. It is very easy to get - especially if he attends daycare. If the "gunk" coming out of them is a creamy yellow color, it is more than likely pink eye. Pink eye must be treated with antibiotics. It will not clear up on its own. I would recommend taking him to the doctor to be checked. Another suggestion if it is is pink eye - make sure that you don't touch your eyes without washing your hands because it will be very easy for you to catch it. As for the drops if they are prescribed, I found that the easiest was to administer them was to lightly "pinch" the lower lid of my son's eye on each side to form a "pocket" to place the drops in rather than putting them directly on his eyes because they may burn a little.

Your eyes are naturally bathed in saline produced by your lacrimal (tear) ducts. Sounds to me like your son has allergies. You can run him into his pediatrician and get a good diagnosis and maybe start him on some allergy meds. Best of luck!

Your ears, eyes, nose, and throat are all connected. When you sprayed the saline it probably made his eyes water. If his eyes are still red and he seems miserable, call your doctor.

Were they crusty this morning when he woke up?? He might have pink eye. I'd call the pediatrician and ask, you can never be too cautious when it comes to babies.
