Does anyone know how the postal service designates something as a rural route? We're building a house in a new neighborhood. This new street is a loop, with 10 homes on the inside of the loop and about 15 on the opposite side of the street. There are currently 3 homes on the inside, and the post office has told them that they are considered a rural route, and they'd have to pick up their mail from the post office--even though the carrier delivers to those homes on the other side of the street. This is not a rural area--it is a new neighborhood in our town. Anybody have any suggestion on who to contact regarding this issue. We just want our mail delivered as per normal (meaning the carrier delivers it to our home).

We've gone to the post office, and they claim they cannot turn the truck around because they might run over a child! That sounds like the most absurd thing I've ever heard. It is one city block, and I cannot comprehend why they don't just park and walk through the street as they do in every other neighborhood in our town.
