far and away the best colleges for becoming an actor are Julliard, Yale, and SUNY. There are a few more and their common factors are 1. they take very few new students each year so they only take the best; 2. they are very expensive; 3. they have senior showcases for casting directors and agents. Most colleges are not worth beans for becoming an actor. A good liberal arts ed. does not hurt, but acting training is something different. Just look at the list of courses an "acting" major has to take at most universities. Most of them have nothing to do with acting. I find it amusing that colleges and universities (and professional schools) take credit for creating famous actors who once sneezed in their hallways. Great actors would become actors no matter where they went to school, or if they never went to school, because you only learn to act by acting, and most schools have very little opportunity for their students to act. Okay, I had the equal difficulty as you approximately 5 years in the past. I used to be president of my theatre troupe, and have been doing reputable performing jobs right here and there considering I used to be ten, so i used to be confronted with the difficulty of whether or not or now not I will have to pass to institution. On the only hand, you lose useful time when you wait till you are 22 to begin your profession. On the opposite, THERE ARE ALWAYS approaches you'll be able to upgrade your craft, and going to university could support you with that. This is my recommendation to you: IF (and provided that) you are not able to assume being comfortable doing whatever else, then pass to institution, and principal in theatre arts. Unless you do not suppose you'll be able to manage it, do a double principal. If you would see your self being a instructor, then do a principal in Secondary english schooling, and a principal in communique and theatre arts. If you do this, you are eligible to instruct english, debate, forensics, theatre, speech, and a pair different categories, which makes you very versitile, making it a lot less difficult to get employed if and while you make a decision to instruct. While you are in institution, audition for EVERYTHING, grow to be near along with your professors (they're humans you wish for your well aspect), and spend some time there networking. Meet new humans, since it quite is not what you recognize, it is who you recognize. That's the selection I went with 3 years in the past, and I suppose it used to be the quality selection of my lifestyles. Trust me, university is not anything you wish to overlook out on. I nonetheless wish to pursue an performing profession, however no less than now I do have an effective backup plan.

There is no best. There are many good. IT all depends on what you want out of a program, what you need, how well you get along with the faculty, etc. What are your goals, there are lots of actors who never make a living at acting.
We need more information.
Some good ones include NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Yale. There are also several wonderful programs that no one has ever heard of. You will get a lot more experience and individual attention at a small liberal arts program, but the potential contact from a large program are also wonderful.
Wherever you end up going though, you will only get out of a program with as much as you are willing to put in.
Good luck

Any college with a good program as long as you have the drive in you to keep going. UCLA and USC are good as well as NYU and many others that we've never heard of, but these are in the heart of the tv/film or theatre areas. They are also extremely difficult to get into.
good luck,
Marianne
