I am 35 weeks pregnant today. I woke up this morning with period like cramps. It is a constant pain. Every now and then I get a really painful throbbing pain in my pelvic bone. I called my doctors office and of course this is new patient day and they can't see me. They said to call back if I have 5 or more contractions in a hour. Is this a sign of labor? If so how long could it be?

Don't fret. I have had period like cramping since 34 weeks. Mine were contractions, but not labor contractions, nor were they really considered Braxton Hicks. They were just my uterus flexing and relaxing, and moving my baby into position. Unless your contractions become more frequent--more than 6 in an hour at 5 minutes apart--I would just try to rest and drink plenty of water. Being dehydrated can cause contractions.

As far as the pelvic discomfort, this may be your baby moving into position. Within the past two weeks my baby has dropped significantly and each morning it is more difficult to get out of bed, and it feels my pelvic bone litterally pops back into place. My baby is so low that the pressure on my pelvic bone makes me walk slightly hunched over and very, very slowly.

If you feel that this pain is too much, you may want to visit the ER if your doctor cannot see you in a timely manner.

Good luck! And be assured it is almost over!

if they are false labor pains they will go away when you change position or go for a walk, they are usually irregular

true labor pain are constant, every so many minutes apart, and do not go away with change in postion or activity

if your water breaks go straight to the hospital, if you think you are having true labor pains also go to the hospital

congrats!

Labor pains feel just like menstrual cramps. They can see you if you're in labor!

congrats
