he had some grated carrot and a tiny bit of mango some time ago but it seems to me that those should be out of his system by now. should i worry? he's about 3-4 years old and apart from that seems to be doing well.

Thanks guys! He's back to normal now-just worried cause it was quite long after he ate the orange stuff. PS:Eva,I've researched everything possible&know (I think;) how to look after him. Fruit should be ok once in a while, he eats leaves 90% the time&gets regular baths+has a water dish.

Perfectly normal. Mine do this when I feed them carrots. Nothing to worry about.

Orange Tortoise

That is strange. My russian eats carrot a couple of times a month but I've never seen orange poo. Urates (the solid pee) can become dark (orange) colored if your tort is dehydrated.
Try soaking him in chin deep lukewarm water for 20-30 minutes a day for a couple of weeks. It might help.
Mango (or most fruit) are to high in sugar for russian tort's and shouldn't ever be fed. Have you seen the diet sheet

and edible plant list? http://www.russiantortoise.org/edible_plants.htm

I would call a vet about it. I was told that anytime the tortoise's poo looks a funny color or is runny to call a vet right away. I have a greek tortoise and he has been in the vet for a month from parasites, I noticed he had runny poo one day.

As long as it's not a bright blood red or a dark red (like dried blood) then he should be fine. How long is a while ago?

I would a.) wonder if it ate something you are not aware of, and b.) not worry much about a couple bouts of odd poos.
