Wow,I lost alot of respect for coach Shula. He is supposed to be one of the greats in the game. Still upset about the snowplow game I guess.

I do think that his comments will motivate the Patriots some but I don't think he's too concerned about topping his record. The undefeated '72 Dolphins set a record that can't be topped, only duplicated.
19 or 17 wins is really irrelavant. The only Key stat is the 0.
I also don't think the Dolphins are worried yet about their feat being duplicated. I think Mecury Morris said it best when he said "Don't call me when your in my Neighborhood, call me when your on my block!" The Patriots still have to win 11 more games to go undefeated, let them get at least within 4 or 5 games before we start sounding the alarms.
Don't make statements like the Dolphins had a weak schedule back in 1972, that only makes you look silly. There is NO SUCH thing as a weak schedule in the NFL. If it were so, more teams would go undeafeted in the NFL like they do in College. The fact that only once has a team made it through a full NFL season undefeated in the history of the NFL speaks volumes and highlights the fact that there is NO such thing as an weak schedule.
For those of you who did not know just how good the Dolphins were in 1972, they lost their starting QB (HOF Bob Griese) in week 5 due to a broken leg and still went undefeated with their backup Earl Morrall. Griese did return for the Super Bowl.

I don't know if the Pats need any additional motivation and I am not a Pats fan. I do believe Shula should have given a vanilla answer to the question instead of that Barry Bonds - asterisk stuff. Somehow the comparison just doesn't work for me. Also, since he was the coach of the Dolphins it sounds more like sour grapes.
As far as the Pats cheating, I think enough has been said and they have been fined. So, everyone STFU and let's play ball.

Yeah, Shula's just hating. On the same token, don't ask a guy a question and blast him for answering it honestly in his own opinion... Mike Vrabel. But when you think about it, everyone tries to find a reason to hate'em, unless you're from or live in the New England area.. and that chip is what keeps them motivated. Also, the Pats have a pretty darn easy schedule too. I mean a team of that caliber plays the Dolphins, BIlls, and Jets twice a year... that's 6 easy division wins for them a year and a lock for the playoff race. Goodell needs to re-work their division.

He's not motivating them he's just good for them. I heard in a recent interview that Shula and his teamates party every time a team loses but that when they get really close to winning them all like when the Colts went 10-0 him and all of his players call up the team and give them a good job and hope they go far. They dont want there record to be broken but r happy 4 the team that will.

Two points:
1) Yes, it has to be killing Shula to see the Patriots poised to have 19-0 perfect season and surpass the 72 Dolphins perfect 16-0 season.
2) Yes, the comments of Shula, Dungy, Mangini, and many sports pundits about "cheating" have most assuredly motivated the talented, accomplished Patriot players and coaches to play "smash mouth" football and shut everybody up.

Sorry the 72 Dolphins didn't have a weak schedule, they were simply the best football team for 2 years. The year before they lost in the playoffs. Additionally there have been a lot of 'almost' undefeateds. The Patriots have a shot, but it can't be that easy it hasn't been done since '72. And its funny not many people made any excuses for Mike Vick, but Coach Belicheck was busted cheating, and other coaches have complained, for years, they had to give all of their files to the NFL, and told to stop having problems in their stadium with only the visitors equipment from the booth to the sidelines, and to qbs as well. As stated, until its done, shhhhh.

First of all it's DOLPHINS not dolfins. And second, there's still half a season left to play, anything can happen. And though any record can be broken. It hasn't been broken yet, so come January, maybe we'll witness history, maybe we won't. Only time will tell.

Has everyone forgotten that the season isn't over yet so the Patriots don't have an undefeated season as of right now?
