RE:
How would you define self-understanding?

Self-understanding pertains to your comprehension of your ironic or paradoxical (or whatever flowery literary jargon you wish) nature as a being filled with questions about yourself.

Although such comprehension is just an interpretation, may it be accurate or not, which has been our sole basis of saying this is me. However such process of interpretation has been evidently unending for most serious philosophical and existential reflection.

No matter how much we deny the certitude of having a self, we are also haunted by the temporal disclosure of our own being to our consciousness. To make it more interesting, such diclosures are jumbled pages of a suspense novel of our identity. No matter how illogical such pages are arranged before our consciousness, we interpret it in such a way we can make a meaning out of it.

I think self-understanding is the process of one trying to understand oneself in many different aspects - which include where does one come from, is one different from another, what is the reason for one's existence in this world, what can one do to attain full understanding of one's purpose in life, & many more.

If one could get answers to all aspects, one will be considered as "Self-understood" instead of self-understanding.

Understanding your subconcious mind and why you do the things you do. How your past experiences have effected the way you think. Being able to control your actions and know why you're doing them.

The realization that there is no 'self' to understand.

Self-understanding means never believe anything unless you have experienced it. Never form any prejudice, even if the whole world is saying that it is so, unless you have encountered it.
