I mean the very first music that you listened to and got you hooked on classical music since. Mine was Beethoven's Fifth out of a milk ad on TV, and I was seven years old.

heard it in the womb ... my mother loved and played classical records most of the time if the radio wasn't on a classical station

seriously my mother favorite opera was Faust she played it before I was born constantly (my father loved old style country) by the time I saw it as an adult I knew the Libretto in French without ever looking at it
seriously before I was 5 I could sing parts of Rite of Spring (my brother and I always sang that when we played with our dinosaurs)

EDIT what i find amusing about this .... is everything I've said is preposterous but true

Hi Alberich! Well, the funniest anecdote I've heard is only second hand, I'm afraid, but it was experienced by my best friend, so I can promise you it REALLY happened. My friend (who is Estonian) was holidaying back in Tallinn some years ago, and one night, he attended a performance of Mozart's "Magic Flute." The performance was wonderful, the orchestra was superb...and not surprisingly, the audience was transfixed by the action on stage. But my friend was mesmerised by what was happening OFF-stage...apparently, unbeknown to the two participants, there was an explicit shadow play occurring there behind the curtain - an X-rated "sub plot," if you like...and all my friend could do was watch in horrified fascination! And to this day, he still can't understand why he was the only one in the audience who noticed! Needless to say, nowadays "The Magic Flute" evokes some rather unorthodox associations for him! It was always those pop classical music people always played on TV and soundtracks form cartoons and movies. I always heard it and just NEEDED to know who wrote it and what the name of that piece is.

I started my music library from the most popular like 1812 Overture and Beethoven's 9th and 5th, and now it has grown all the way to Stravinsky, Gershwin, and even jazz.

I was about 3 or 4 years old and the lady who lived behind us used to play classical piano every day. I think it has always stuck in my mind and that is why I listen to classical music today.

Bach and Beethoven played on a school record player as we all filed out from morning assembly - I was 5 years old. I still remember the smell of my school, the hard parquet floor we sat cross legged on and the Bach cantatas and Beethoven sonatas.

Watching The Empire Strikes Back. All the music in that film was very effective, especially at the end as everyone regroups with the Rebel Fleet and begin their search for Han. A beautiful scene.

I started taking ballet when I was 3, and Chopin (among others) was always played during class. So, that started my enjoyment of it. It wasn't until I was 10 and danced in The Nutcracker that I really took interest in "classical" music; it was the "Waltz of The Snowflakes" that got me hooked.

Hello!

For me it was Schubert's "Impromptu in G-flat", which was recommended by a friend during my college days. I started to listen to classical works and learn to play the piano after I heard this piece - it is very romantic, I would say! :D

Hmm, very difficult to remember, since I've been hearing it all my life. One thing that stands out is "To a Wild Rose" by MacDowell that my brother played on the piano when I was about 7 or 8.

The Planets suite ~ Holst

I think I heard the part of 'Jupiter' that was used for the hymn
'I Vow To Thee My Country' when I was quite little.

Also, 'Largo from the New World' ~ Dvorak
used on the Hovis bread ads when I was a kid.
