Rumour has it when you start choking them they go a vivid purple but in bondage sessions Ive known them to go sickly green .

Ahhh the euphemisms - when I choke a smurf he changes colors AND throws up! Ok, that's definitely middle school and I apologize. I like the purple answer with the explanation the blue+red=purple.

Purple is the colour they turn when bitten on the tail by a purple smurf. And since, as we all know, colors don't pull double-duty in Smurf Village, I guess it can't be purple.
Thus I say when choked their skin becomes translucent, which makes it possible to see the bright wine-colour of their muscular system, on account of all the sasparilla juice they drink.
