If your turtle doesn't like the eggshells and doesn't take to the other methods mentioned, there's something called ReptoCal. It's in a small blue container with a lizard on the front. It's finely powdered calcium. I put it in my turtle's crickets, but it can also be sprinked on veggies. It has no taste and will be eaten with the food.

It's only about $5 (USA) and I've had my bottle for a VERY long time, and I still have more than half left.

Egg shells supply extra Calcium, some turtles love them and some wont go near them, my aunt just peels a hard boiled egg and puts the little bits in there, so i guess you would want to crush them up.

And yes Candii petstores have turtle food.. but most turtle food is really unhealthy.. it would be the equivelent to eating nothing but potatochips or something all the time, its alot healthier to supply a more natural diet of veggies and stuff

Egg shells are a good source of calcium. Boil an egg and clean out the insides. Drop a couple of pc's in just to see if the turtle likes it. If the turtle eats them, then put in the whole shell..it won't hurt as mine eat it in no time. Only use the shells for calcium as they still need pellets and other dietary foods. My turtles will not eat the calcium blocks. Also try cuttle bone for birds.....This keeps their beaks trim...

They will not hurt themselves by eating these!!!

Hope this helps. The poster above me...that was a very rude remark.....and obviously you don't know anything about turtles....

Eggshells are not a good source of calcium- they do not dissolve in the stomach well in most species, and they leave a lot of gritty residue when they do. They are also sharp, as you mentioned.

Aquatic turtle get their calcium from good foods.
