what materials whould i have to use?
I need to create it as part of an architecture project, so i can put metalic items in the field and investigate their movement

Electrostatic fields can be produced by rubbing amber with fur or better yet with a VanDeGraf generator.

The easiest was to produce a B-field is to use a current-carrying wire or just a magnet.

Build two VanDerGraff generators you will have a low voltage field between the two of them. This is a safe way to go. You can also make a dipole electromagnetic generator using armatures from electric motors but that is more difficult. Ask an electrician about how to do that.

This site will tell you and where to buy the supplies or already built VanDerGraff generators. They are easy to make using commonly available items.

Wrap a copper wire around and around a long nail then connect the two ends of the wire to a 6 or 9 volt battery. You will see that it causes the nail to become magnetic, thereby producing a magnetic field.

Take a wire, wrap it around a nail or something round, leaving two small lengths on either end of the loop. Connect these wires to some power source, like a battery (preferrably being 12V but not too strong).

NOTE: DO NOT under ANY circumstances plug these wires DIRECTLY INTO an outlet.
