The Vikings signed Koy Detmer, Vinny Testerverde at (97yrs) gets signed, Doug Johnson and Chris Weinke are working out for teams.......

Is the NCAA not producing good QB's anymore. Where are the young up and comers. Tavarse Jackson would have trouble starting on pretty much any D I team.

Why does it seem like there is a lot more depth at most other positions in the NFL.

I ask myself the same question every week when I'm watching starters like Joey Harrington, Tarvaris Jackson, and the Grossman/Griese circus in Chicago. The backups are even worse, and it's been exacerbated even more this season with injuries. I believe that there have now as many different starting QBs this season as there were all of last year, and that could continue with Patrick Ramsey possibly starting this week.

By my count, 16 teams have used at least two different starting QBs this season, and several teams have had to turn to third-stringers. I'm not sure why the position is so thin, really, other than that many teams rely on the passing game more than the ground game, which has changed from a decade ago. Back then, you could get away with starting a Dilfer and still win, but that's tougher now.

So many get hurt with concussions and other injuries. Some are felons who were into dog fighting. Offenses are complex and colleges are recruiting athletes for quarterbacks and many of these are not pro style quarterbacks. Hines Ward and Randall-el were quarterbacks in college, but are good athletes who excel in other positions in the pros. I wouldn't hire Doug Johnson or Chris Weinke because neither proved that they could win.

I believe it's because if the QB were really pumped in his upper body, that might give him some restrictions to his passing ability. He needs total, full range movement of his arms and upper body.

Also, most QBs need to be really tall so they can see over the others team's defense, and usually, tall guys are a twee thinner.

And finally, he's a smaller target. A smaller QB may be easy to lose when he drops back for the pass, however, if he were 400lbs, you could easily have your eyes on him the whole time.

Hope this helps. Yes, I'm female, but a ginormous Football fan. GO GIANTS!!!!

Because of the difficulty of the Position, the salaries concerned, and the lack of available talent, Most teams cannot afford both a starter, and a starter quality backup!

Good question, I am not too sure what the answer is.

I am just glad Derek Anderson is playing well for Cleveland and we have Brady Quinn waiting in the wing. No trouble at QB for us.

Because it's a really hard position to be great in, and everybody wants a great quarterback. Good isn't good enough, they all want greatness. Unfortunately there are only so many Peyton Mannings and Tom Brady's out there.

Because it is the most difficult position to play in professional sports and athletes that can handle all of the pressure and other requirements of the position and excel are few and far between.

people like michael vick and vince young have changed the direction of how the position of quarterback is being played.

the younger players are trying to play like that rather than the classical "drop back" passer such as dan marino or joe montana. it is a harder position to play when you have to "stand" in the pocket and have patience.

This is because people are starting to realize that quarterback is not as important as people think. People used to think "Without our qb, we would be awful" but that has changed. There are so many other important positions that people need to care about now. It's not that the NCAA isnt producing good qbs anymore, its just that people are less worried about getting the good qb.

Because they have had this recent obsession with these running type QB's that can't play. They seem to have forgotten what a real QB looks like.
