Licenses are a tax and a way to track people if the do not pay a fine or keep up with insurance paper work . It does not prevent people from driving thats why the have bigger fines and short jail terms for people driving without licenses . Its like the Irs has its rules and you can go to jail if you mess around .The same thing with driving if you go to fast to often then they make your life miserable .

I'll just say this, as someone who has a suspended liscense, I have gotten pulled over several times and usually have gotten off with just a ticket, and I was allowed to drive my car away. (I admit, I'm a terrible driver, and I really shouldn't be on the road, but Pennsylvania's public transportation SUCKS big time.)

But, You are right, DMV is a so regulated that I can actually see it doing some good with tracking illegals. I dont know, I am actually on the fence with this issue.

The drivers license thing is a distraction. It is utterly, completely, absolutely irrelevant. It is brought up only to divert peoples attention from real things such as:

The war in the middle east
The US preparing to attack Iran
Possibility of nuclear war
Oil hitting $100 a barrell--you will be paying a LOT more for gas and heating oil, that effectively makes you POORER, everything you buy will cost more because of this
GM posted a 39 billion dollar loss the last quarter, one of America's largest employers and largest tax payers might easily be going out of business
Bird flu

There are a TON of real things that need attention. Drivers licenses for illegals are NOT one of them. Pay attention to what matters.

Why shouldn't she?
She has opinions on every other tax we have, she wants to raise them all, she should have an opinion on this one. Of course she wants them to get licenses, it's a way to raise even more taxes to fund all her wonderful programs.
Maybe, she can figure out a way to tax air, then she wouldn't even have to be constrained by our boundaries. Oh, I forgot, she isn't anyway, we are going to have a North American Union, so now she can start figuring out how to spend the taxes she is planning on collecting from the Canadians and the Mexicans.
It must be nice to be part of a democrat run government. It's like playing with monopoly money that never runs out, no matter how much you spend.

because it was a legitimate question posed to her and people would like to know what she thinks about it during the 2 minutes that shes answering it. Note... no matter WHAT answer she would give, shed either change her mind, say she was misquoted, or deny ever having answered in the first place.
Oh.. btw.. licenses are NOT a tax. They are privleges given to legal aged citizens who show an ability to drive. There are thousands of REAL Americans who cant or dont drive, and dont have drivers licenses. The Fees attached to them are generally for administrative purposes.

Why should she answer?

1. She's running for President and people should know her stance on issues.

2. The governor of NY proposed the plan and as a senator from NY she should back it or bash it.

3. Your question should be "Why is Hillary avoiding answering questions on licenses for illegals.

If your going to run for president, you should be able to give straight answers on any question thrown at you. So far the only candidate I have seen do that is Ron Paul.

It has nothing to do with her. I heard her speak about this issue on Lou Dobb's show. What she said was fine and acceptable to me. It sounds like a reasonable solution to a complex program that should have been taken care of back in the 1960s. This is not a new problem. It's a problem that wasn't suppose to resurface. I don't care what her opinion is on driving licenses. She has enough to be concerned about without tackling issues that don't concern her. She is right. The governors are trying to find solutions to problems they are having. People need to keep their eyes on the ball. It is a major problem that illegals are driving without insurance, without having identification, and without having had to pass an exam (written, driving).
Good luck trying to catch the illegals driving. Good luck with that. I've been in 2 accidents with illegals. I wasn't the driver. One took off, drove around us and fled. The other stayed and was held by the cop. I doubt anything happened to him. Both times we were rearended.
What solution do you have to offer to deal with this problem?
I'm interested to know.

She answered the right question. Her policy on immigration at the federal level. She did not avoid the question. She said that she supported what the governors decided to do. She understand they are in a tough spot and they have to deal with the consequences. Federal vs. State. She's a state rep in federal government. (state issues like the one the governor is handling is not her area.) She seems to be working on improving immigration reform. That is her area.
Why is that difficult to understand?
The issue of licenses is not so simple of an issue. You are looking at only the solution being offered but you don't understand the problem. It's evident you don't with what you are saying here. So think about it.

This is Hillary's policy on immigration.
1. Toughen our borders.
2. If an illegal commits a crime, deport them.
3. The illegals here have to continue working and have a path to citizenship that includes a waiting list, back taxes, and fines.
4. If an illegal is not working, deport them.

She said this on Lou Dobb's program. It may have been recorded earlier. Lou was not speaking to her.

Hillary is not actually forced to answer any questions. She can choose to remain silent or non-commital. The license issue is yet another non-presidential matter that masks the real issues behind a mountain of rhetoric. She could actually say something along those lines, but then she would be accused of evading the question, and most Americans would, sadly, not understand the answer.

I'm with Trish. Give them licenses....and use that as a way to track 'em, round 'em up and send them back to their home south of the border

She needs to answer the same questions as the other candidates do. Period. No special dispensation for her. She should be treated EXACTLY the same way as the rest of the candidates, no one should go easier or harder on her.
