Move to NJ or Oregon. It's illegal to pump your own gas there. Reg gas in NJ is about $2.75 a gallon.

Gasoline sales do not produce that much profit. They rely on other sales to make their profit instead. Curious thing that DUI causes so much death but yet, you can stop at a gas station, get gas in your car, buy beer to get drunk on and your smokes, have a wreck, kill someone, the drunk driver walks away, light up a smoke, tosses it away causing a huge fire. You get off with a suspended sentence. Hmmmm..
Anyhow...if stations were to give full service, they would have to charge a whole lot more to pay the attendant to come and pump your gas. If you pump it yourself, you might pay $2.75. For full service, you'd wind up paying $4.00 or so.

At the pump, the owner is making maybe 1-3 cents per gallon. Is your station busy enough to justify spending that on a guy making $18/hour fully loaded? That could be 1500 gallons per hour just to break even!
True about Oregon and NJ - I go to those states and they act like I don't know how to work a pump. I don't want those clowns all over my car! I am perfectly capable after 30 years of pressing the buttons to make the pump go.

I hate to burst your bubble, but if gas companies offered full service it wouldn't be free. They would probably tack on another couple of bucks to pay for the guy that would have to pump your gas and check your oil.
Oil companies don't make billions of dollars in profit by passing savings on to the customers.

I live near Philly and whenever I know I am going to NJ for anything -- I wait to get gas when I cross the state line.....cheaper gas AND they pump it for me!
Gotta love them NJ folks -- taxing people right outta the state but you can still get full-service at a gas station!

The gas companies need to give us nothing back. We're the ones screwing them. Gas prices aren't high due to a lack of oil, they're high because of a surplus of oil, that due to the environmental restrictions we've put on them, they can't produce all of. If we'd allow them to refine more oil and ease off on our restrictions that do nothing to help the environment, gas would then go down.

When is it required that the gas company give anything back? They have given enough already by keeping the price of gas respectable compared to the rest of the world.

I'm sorry, but the fact that some one pumps my gas for me...isn't going to make paying $3.25 a gallon any better.

FFS will you people stop whining about how much gas costs...
Here in the UK it is the equivalent of just over $8 a gallon...
If anything your gevernment is keeping the prices artificially low to keep demand up...
And screwing the planet royally as a bye-product
