We were looking to buy a condo, but someone told us not to cos it's harder to sell. So..being in AZ .. I'd like a pool. So I'm just curious how much is your pool maintance expense/month...

I have a pool and for $100 a month Pinch a Penny comes and does all poll maintenance once a week. While this is expensive it was part of a package deal that I got.
You can do the work yourself and while actual cost will vary depending on pool size roughly if the pool is in good shape, and the water is balanced chemically etc.. the average suggestion is 1/4 -1/2 Gal lquid chlorine a week and that runs $4 Gallon, also a few ounces clarifier and a 40oz bottle runs $20
Also you want to utilize solid chlorine tablets which run appro $1 each so 3-4 of those a week.

That should be all of the chemicals needed on average

If you go to your local pool supply store and have deminsions of a pool, they should be able to get you more exact requirements and then you can check their prices

Condos are just like any other property:
it all depends on Location, Location, Location!
As for fees, without knowing the comparative costs,
there is no way anybody can help you with that!

Regardless, a pool - - in-ground or above-ground - -
is more of an expense than most people realize.
Consider the cost of water (of course!)
and the electricity to run the lights and filters,
and the materials (chlorine and other chemicals),
and don't forget the initial zoning and building costs,
not to mention fencing (if applicable), landscaping, etc, etc, etc!

Pools certainly add value to homes, especially in hot areas like AZ, but, the real question is: are you doing it for comfort or to make money? If the answer is the former, and you can afford it, then go for it. Otherwise, you might want to think twice about putting a hole in the ground that you're never going to use! At the very least, make sure that your homeowner's insurance covers pools and flooding (what if the pool foundation breaks? what if the pool overflows into your home?).

Pool maintenance is not all that bad as long as you keep up with it. The summers is when you do most of the work, especially during monsoon season. With the Sun, and people swimming in it in the summer, the chemicals change all the time. Pool pumps don't use a whole lot of energy. Your biggest cost is the chlorine tablets. It's expensive getting the big 5 gallon bucket of them, but cheaper in the long run.

When it's too hot out to go anywhere, even at night (there's plenty of days like that in Phoenix) you're going to love having that pool.
