Or are there any two types that can mate?

Two members of different sub-species can mate and produce fertile offspring. Yellow-belly sliders and Red-ear sliders, for example, can mate.

Two members of different species in the same Genus can often mate, but produce fertile offspring less often. Brazilian Sliders and Red-ear Sliders are from the same Genus and would probably mate.

Two turtles from different Families are very unlikely to mate in the first place, and if they do, almost certainly do not produce fertile offspring. Painted Turtles and Map Turtles, for example, almost certainly will not cross breed (the earlier post is almost certainly a mis-identification. Pet shop guys are rarely experts)

Turtles from different Orders don't even try to crossbreed.

Yes they can apparently. There was one at the reptile shop around here and the guys that work there said that they figure it was part RES and part Map.
