Good morning! :)
If other users could see how you have rated a response to a question, would you still do it?
Just curious...

Well, I see the thumbs-down fairy has paid a visit to this question. How appropriate, since this question was inspired by them...

I usually don't give thumbs down to answers about music, because it would not be correct, since everyone has it's own music taste, and nobody can say that there are wrong tastes. Still some answers are offensive, like "the band ... is awesome and the others are sh*t" or something like this. In this case I always give a thumb down, and would do it even if it couldn't be done anonymously. ;)

Good morning! Absolutely. Even though the current system allows you to rate anonymously, I stand by any thumb I give out. Clearly there are a few individuals that use the thumb mechanism as a means to carry out on-line vendettas. That can be discerned by some of the patterns that emerge in certain questions. I wouldn't change a thing even if others could see which way I rated something.

I'd continue to adminster thumbs as I saw fit. Like a few people said I mainly do thumbs up anyways, I only give thumbs down if I don't like the way someone writes something. Even if you disagree with everything I say if you explain your answer I never give thumbs down, unless I'm in a mood for condemning my enemies. Then all are subject to my thumb of doom.
But seriously, who really takes the thumbs seriously?

Good morning.
Yeah. Although, I don't give a whole lot of thumbs downs, and the only ones that I really give are for reasons that I would stand behind. Usually it's reserved for the person who answers the "what's your favorite record of this decade?" question with "all new music sucks" or things like that. Occasionally for the person who refuses to type any full words and I feel like I am standing up for the English language, for somone who is just factually incorrect with their answers, or someone who is a jerk.

I usually only give a thumbs up. It feels like bad karma to give thumbs down. Although I will on occasion if the person is blatantly rude, or being a jerk just for the sake of being a jerk.
I'm starting to think I should just adopt a new policy:
Any answer containing an IDK, is hereby subject to as many thumbs down as possible by the Yahoo Answers community. More than three IDKs in a single section is grounds for a violation, and more than 5 total shall result in a suspension. Should another IDK violation be reported after suspension, the result will be a permanent banishment from Yahoo Answers, and society.

I'm not big on giving a thumbs down, but the ones I do give out would be still be given if it weren't anonymous. I never understood why people give a thumbs down on questions like "What is your favorite band?"... that's someones preference, not a wrong answer. I like giving thumbs up though, I do that a lot.

Well, to be honest I only ever give thumbs down on very rare occasions, and it's always justified, so yeah, I absolutely would still do it even if it was no longer anonymous. I've got no problem with someone knowing I think they're an idiot :)
Oh, and good afternoon from Ireland!

Great question! I think I would, because I give thumbs down very sparingly to begin with. And when I do, it's usually in defense of someone else. Either way, if that person (who knew I gave them a thumbs down) wanted to get revenge ... at least I'd know who it was, and I could report him/her.

Definitely. I'm with citizen, everyone has their own opinion so I don't give thumbs down unless they are trashing everyone else. Then I'd give them a kick in the a$$ if I could. Why not give thumbs up to the answers you like though, even if you weren't anonymous? Show your support for the answers you like.
And yes, good morning.
Edit: It would be like giving out stars, they're not anonymous at all.

Heck yes! I am proud of my thumbs, lol. I would also love to see some who is thumbing me down, I sometimes get them even if my answer is right. I've ticked off a lot of people here, I guess.
And good morning to you Sookie, look how early I'm up!
