Scam big time. Contrary to some commericals on TV, the government never does anything for free. You have to fill out 5 pounds of paperwork in order to receive anything.

Go to the credit bureau web sites and file a credit hold on your credit reports. Go to the bank and change your account numbers. Call every credit card you have and say you think the numbers were compromised and send you new cards. Do this today.

It sounds like a scam to me. Call your local Social Security office about it before giving out any personal information. If you are required to give any information over the phone, such as your SS number, address or account info, you can be fairly certain it is a scam. The Social Security Administration knows your number, your address, and apparently your phone number and you should never give informatio out to someone that calls you. It is not one of the purposes of SS to hand out free money like in some kind of contest or lottery.
