The government has passed counter-terrorism policies that have changed our society beyond all recognition.

Is it fair that the terrorists should be allowed to have the power to transform government policy without going through the peaceful political process?

Or should our society be constructed around the majority of us non-terrorists?

Yes they have.
You can see by most of the answers here....these people don't even realise that society has changed...and we have lost a great deal of our freedom and liberty....

Of course our society should be constructed around us people who are not terrorists. We are after all the majority. Sadly its not always possible to tell the terrorist from the normal law abiding person.

A lot of terrorists are home grown and are respectable members of society holding down good normal jobs like teachers or doctors. To keep our families safe we need to have some strict policies and unfortunately they do alter everyones lives.

This is one of those times when we cant have the penny and the bun. The trouble is the government cash in on every opportunity to restrict our freedoms and I fear they use these policies to do just that

Well, I guess I would have to answer no they have not achieved their agenda.

There are a couple problems with your question. Number one, you work off the assumption your initial assertion is fact (changing society beyond all recognition). Number two, if they had achieved their agenda, one would think they would no longer plan or carry out attacks.

I guess I am living in a hole. Has our society changed beyond recognition? Am I in some parallel universe to yours? The only thing I have seen changed is that I have to take off my shoes going through the line at the airport.

Terrorists don't play by the rules, so we have to be on guard. No it isn't fair, but it is the way of the world due to muslim extremists.

The terrorist agenda is impose sharia law on us all. They are not even close to achieving that.
They have succeeded in giving free propaganda to the National Front though

Terrorists achieved their goal that people felt that they are not safe when travelling on planes and ships.
