Try Simple Linctus, I think you can take 2 spoonfuls up to either 4 or 6 times a day but it will say on the bottle.
I find that very good if I have a persistant cough.
Also if you are driving all day make sure the heating or A/C isn't on too much as it may be drying your throat and causing you to cough more.
Suck boiled sweets so that your throat doesn't get dry too.
If you are still having problems with it though I would visit the doctor just to be on the safe side.

Hmm, have you ever considered using something called Tiger Balm. I get like you if I start coughing find it difficult to stop and sometimes end up not breathing for a few seconds.
I find that if i get coughing and unable to breath properly that I take a deep breath whilst holding the tub (very small) under my nose, this helps me to relax and it stops be coughing.
It smells a little like Vics vapour rub but has some additional ingredients, you can get it from any chemist or herbal shop I believe.
Its a lot better than being in a bad way and being ill.

I'm guessing you have seen a Dr & that's where you got the eye drops. If the Dr didn't prescribe anything for him, just try to make him comfortable until it passes. Keep a warm mist humidifier in his room, rub his chest down with Vicks or Mentholatum. Pat his back kinda hard to help break up the congestion. You can try giving him like 1tsp. in a medicine dropper of ginger ale that has been opened & room temp. That will help settle his tummy as well as the carbonation will help break up the mucus draining down his throat into his tummy. If he is worse than when your Dr saw him or you just feel like he needs to be checked, call your pediatrician on call or take him to the ER. But most likely, unless he's in respiratory distress, they're not going to do anything. You can check for distress by looking at the little hole where the neck meets the chest (where they would put a treach tube in if his airway was blocked). See if it dents in when he takes a breath. Also, look at the bottom of his rib cage in the middle, not on his sides. When he breaths if you can see an upside pear shape, he is in distress and needs to be evaluated by medical professional. Good Luck!

You do have serious lung problems and should see a specialist ASAP. Lungs are probably the most vulnerable organs because they are in direct contact with the air, germ, mycosis and stuff. A normal doctor will not be able to detect the real problem and just minimize the symptoms. Don't let the specialist send you back home until you get a clear explanation on the cause and effects so that you can adjust you environment & lifestyle and prevent future re-occurence.

You must be having allergic cough if it usually comes with colds. Try boiling ginger and drinking the water from it. It gives a soothing feeling. And observe what triggers it. It must be carpets, dust etc. even stress can trigger this kind of cough and if u are stressed, virus can also take advantage of it, thus making your cough last longer. U can bring with u lozenges for sore throat once u r in the car, but water is the simpliest u can have. Try avoiding cold drinks too, it aggravates this kind of cough. And maintain ascorbic acid or vitamin c daily,it will make ur resistance higher...

I had something similar happen to me years ago. For me it was actually a yeast overgrowth in my system. I realized this when my coughing was most severe when I had anything with sugar in it. Sugar feeds yeast.
Acidopholus is the "good" bacteria we have in our bodies and it keeps the yeast in balance. Sometimes that balance is overthrown (usually with antibiotics) and we have too much yeast. When that happens you need to replenish the acidopholus in your system.
You can get it in capsules or liquid and also chewables. You can take it as often as you like because you cannot overdose on acidopholus. The side effect of acidopholus is a healthier digestive tract.
When I had this problem I took an "enteric coated" acidopholus capsule for the lower intestine. I also got the drinkable acidopholus for the stomache and then I got the chewables to chew on all the time to keep the cough at a minimum. It shouldn't take long to get rid of that cough, if yeast is the problem you will notice results immediately. Good luck.

Is your cough dry and hacking? Is it high pitched and wheezy? You could have bronchitis I get bronchitis every three or four years.
Ricola cough drops ease the pain of my throat when I have a cough. Hard candies can also soothe the throat. Hot beverages are good--can you carry a thermos of hot tea with agave nectar in your vehicle? Herban Essentials sells Eucalyptus Towelettes, and eucalyptus is good for soothing you when you have cold symptoms.

I'm not a doctor, but I've just taken my son to the Dr yesterday with the same symptoms and it turned out that it was a post-nasal drip that caused the coughing and he was put on antibiotics for a sinusitis.
I'd recommend that you see a doctor and get checked out. Your cold may have turned into something more serious that requires proper treatment.
