The answer here is illegals meaning, they don't pay taxes, they are here ILLEGALLY and should have no rights.
No, they should not be able to get a drivers license.
Furthermore, even after becomming citizens, I don't feel they have the right to collect social security. Social security that my ancestors and I have paid into all our lives. It's not bad enough that by the time my grandchildren retire, there will be no money in the budget. What's going to happen then? This government is so hell bent on helping every other stinking country that people within our country suffer. Maybe if I saw other countries lending a hand to us in our time of need, I'd have a different opinion, however, I have yet to see that happen. Yes, we may be the strongest country, but how much longer do you think that's going to continue before we fall flat on our faces?

The answer is of course NO. Illegal immigrants have no right to be in this country, therefore they have no right to drive in this country or work in this country. As far as immigrants who are here in this country legally, I believe they ought to be allowed to get a driver's liscence as long as there residency status and expiration date is clearly marked there on. As for other rights like health care, I think any human being has the right to be treated in the case of an emergency. In the case of an illegal, that person should be detained at the hospital for deportation and the medical bills should be sent to the embassy of his country of origin. They can try to collect it from him if they want to but we should hold each country responsible for the financial burden of their illegal immigrants inside the US. On the subject of Amnesty, its a great idea, after they have proven their devotion to this country by serving at least 2 years in the armed forces. Heck, after that they can even become citizens. And for those who say it is impossible to arrest and deport 12 million or more illegals, we just have to get congress to empower state and local officials to enforce federal immigration laws. Then there will be no need for these sanctuary programs because we will have the manpower to solve the problem. Then just send the army recruiters to the INS offices and let the arrested choose between serving the country they claim to love or going back home for good. I would punish second offenses with jail terms and no second chances at the amnesty offer. This problem can be solved. I'm a conservative leaning Independent.

If illegals are getting licenses, and we know they are illegal when they're getting them (and we should know). At this point, they should be detained and sent back where they came from.
Of course they should NOT be able to obtain a license. They should not be here in the first place, so they should clearly not be getting a license to drive in this country. Plus, a license is a form of United States identity, and then it is easier for them to claim they are legal for employment or anything else.

No they shouldn't have driver's licenses. The reason that people want them to have licenses so the illegals can vote in elections. Since the illegals will vote for the party that will give them more rights in this country the democratic party is in a mad dash to buy the votes of the illegals.
(I'm a conservative trapped in the republican party.)

An illegal citizen getting a license!
They didn't care enough to follow the laws coming and living here, why would they care to drive legally? That's basically licensing a criminal.
Doesn't that sound strange?
Most just want to make the money, and some I've met, said in Spanish that they have no interest in being American or participating in our culture.
We can't give priviledges to those who don't earn them!
I have no problem being compassionate and accommodating for people who want to be fully contributory and lawful citizens.

In Minnesota over a year ago the State Legislature wanted to give illegals a drivers license without even taking a drivers test.
Almost every citizen was against it and the Legislature spoke about it as if being accepted and wanted by its constituents.
Our government sucks and people are stupid enough to tolerate it.

Absolutely not. As their label states, these people are here illegally-- they have broken the law of the country. Therefore, we should not be giving them any official documentation.
Driving is a privilege, not a right. For US citizens, it is earned AND can be taken away for many offenses. Now we want to give them to illegals? Anything that gives illegals official documentation seems absolutely foolish to me ESPECIALLY since a license can be used by bad people -- Note: not all illegals are bad people-- to cause harm to good people.
There is a right way and a wrong way to become a citizen in this country. Rewarding people who go about it the wrong way is, well...wrong.

No,!!!!! Illegal immigrants should have no rights or benefits in the US. Well, maybe one - a ticket back to their home country. Other people are waiting to get in legally and I have no sympathy for anyone here illegally. It is really moronic for them to say "we are working here, paying taxes, and not breaking any laws."
Recently a TV piece in the DC metro area, I think it was Maryland, has started using a program to check prisoner's immigration status and something like 80% of Hispanic prisoners were in the US illegally.
My taxes are high enough and I am tired of supporting benefits for someone who broke our laws. I am also for having a national language. Want to guess what I would pick?
I am a Democrat but I vote for the person - not the party.

if they are illegal they should not be allowed to get any form of US indentification! They do not belong here! If they want to go through the proper steps to become a citizen of this country then fine, I don't object. But stop sneaking over here and demanding that you be treated like a US citizen!
And I don't label myself a Republican, Democrat or Other. I'm a self thinker

Not unless it is a license that was issued in Mexico. I do not think that illegals should have any of the rights that we have. There are too many illegals in this country that we are giving jobs to that should be going to our citizens, now we are going to give them drivers licenses so that they can get to the jobs that they should not have in the first place.
