You need to check with your government agency about passport rules. I know that US citizens traveling plane need a US passport to re-enter the US. Not sure about Canadians coming into the US.
Soon all US citizens will need passports to re-enter the US no matter how they travel. As far as I know, you don't need a passport to enter the US or re-enter Canada.
But check your own requirements. A travel agent will be able to help you.
Have fun

Ontario, where? If it's Ontario, California - NO, but if it's Ontario, Canada - you DO need a passport now.

A travel agent could probably tell you for certain. I know laws are changing about passports so it would be a good idea to check.
