Human being is a complex thing!! And weather has a big effect on us... Rainy, Cloudy and Cold season makes us feel unhappy and down and Sunny and Shiny days make us feel happy and bright!! Its just human nature.. We like light better than darkness.. No need to go deeply in chemical and hormonal changes.. Just human nature.. Simply!!

The sun is a source of vitamin D for us. When we do not get enough sun it can trigger 'Seasonal Affective Disorder' in some (or rather a lot!) of people.
You can 'fool' your body to a certain extent by sitting in a room with a special light. Ordinary light bulbs are not strong enough. The average domestic or office lighting emits an intensity of 200-500 lux but the minimum dose, necessary to treat SAD is 2500 lux. The intensity of a bright summer day can be 100,000 lux so you can see what a difference it makes!

When you are out in the sun it produces more vitamin B and some other chemical (I am blanking on it now). But these two things help one feel happy. That is why in cold, winter weather some people suffer from SAD ~ Seasonal Affective Disorder. This could be something that you may suffer from.

There are chemical reasons for this.
"Your mood is influenced by a complex web of relationships between sunlight, melatonin (the sleep hormone) and serotonin (the hormone associated with wakefulness and elevated mood)....Serotonin levels increase when you're exposed to bright light"
If you really do feel depressed when its gloomy and rainy, you can get a natural spectrum light, usually used by those who suffer from seasonal depression (as I do.) They're expensive but well worth the money.

Sunlight increase brain levels of serotonin which elevate the mood. This is why some people develop SAD ( seasonal affective disorder) during the British summer. This can be treated with light boxes.

Perhaps your mood and behaviour is responsing to the natural boost of the sun which you require to stimulate the body and you get easily depleted if you dont get enough sunlight.

Cloudy, Grey days, are depressing to everyone. When the sun is out, everything seems brighter, and we feel better, for it.
