Zelda the Wind Walker has copyright by Nintendo. So if you were to use the title and the story line (the legend) it would be a good idea to request permission in writing for what you intend to do. If you are writing the book just for fun then I think that's ok. Legally no one can make money off other people's intellectual property without permission.

I am not a lawyer or anything but that is the way I understand it.

You could also re-ask this question in the "law and ethics" category as a next step. It would be too bad to put a lot of time and effort into it and not be able to do anything with it.

Good luck

I think you don't have to followed overall on Zelda The Wind Waker. you should change a little bit about a characteristic of the person in your story. And you should copy a Little bit storyline from the other novel, so you could get more idea.

Actually we're same, I'm also writing novel now. hope you get more idea and done a great story.=~)

It's a fine idea if you just want to write the book for fun.

But if you want to try to publish the story, you'll run into a lot of legal issues, including copyright and trademark issues.

*If* you are a serious, talented, professional writer (which I doubt, based on the style of your question), you could approach the owner of the game and propose writing a tie-in novel. If you a an amatuer writer, kid, or average video game nut, then don't bother.

Write the story, share it with your friends if you want, but it won't be publishable.

Well fan fiction is always a good idea but be sure to let a lawyer work out the legal stuff before you sell it. Some one has the copywright of doing books on that video games and you must find out who it is and work out or let your agent work out a deal with em. Johan
