death, violence, bombing, murder, mayhem, angry mobs with rocks , sabers, and chants evoking allah.

very briefly Pakistan is currently being run by a man who has strong links to the military, the ex prime minister has just returned from exile and they are claiming they will hold elections next year.
The big issue is that most people want the ex prime minister back in, but the current gonvernment obviously dont!

It is the usual religious and political nonsense. Those who want a free and democratic society, those who want a theocracy (Muslim suppression) and those who want a dictatorship (the military). We partioned Pakistan form India just after WW11. Why? To stop Hindu's and Moslem's from killing each other. I do hope that sanity will prevail after all they do have nukes!!!

Musharaf, the dictator, has been coming under presure from pro-democracy activists. He has suspended the country's constitution, declared a state of emergency--and claiming its due to terrorism. However, he is making no effort to go after al-Caida. What he is doing is silencing the press and arresting pro-democracy activists.
In other words this "allly" of ours is doing dwhat dictators do--acting like a dictator.
