I was offered a very weird question once.
"In a situation where a terrorist who believes what he is doing is correct is about to shoot an innocent person, who would you prefer to be, the victim, or the terrorist?"
I am still unsure as to how to answer that question =/ If I believed it was correct? >.< I'd love to hear answers.

Well, what do you mean by terrorist? Someone who creates terror in others, to reach his/her goal?
Most military people in the world, no matter what army they are from, believe that they are correct in doing what they are doing. They all create fear in other peoples hearts. Last week I saw a picture in a newspaper of two Dutch soldiers (I'm Dutch as well) searching for taliban in a small village. There was a small child crying of fear. The picture said it all.

About your question.. it's a tough one. I don't believe that there is something as one truth in this world. Everybodies truth is different. My truth might be fighting for my country, for my rights, for whatever. The victim's truth is that he is about to die.

For some reason, I think that in all terms I would want to survive, so I would prefer to live, hence to be the terrorist. But I don't think I would be able to live with myself after that. You are talking about an innocent victim, right? Because if I had the feeling that this person did something very bad to me (or my friends/family or even other innocents) the choice would be easy. I would feel enough anger then.
BUt if the person is innocent.......
The only reason I say that I rather be the terrorist, is that I think my survival instinct is too big, I wouldn't choose to die.

Hmmmmmm...... tough one!!!

If you already know you are a terrorist then you are doing something wrong other wise you wouldn't be a terrorist. Shooting an innocent person is not an option so I would rather be a victim that will be remembered, loved and prayed for rather than a terrorist that will be hated then forgotten. My god would not accept me after killing an innocent!!

For all the people who answered that they would rather be the victim, they are shallow and did not take the situation deeply enough to understand that it is a matter of life and death. All living things would choose live over death under any circumstances. A mother would kill her own child when it comes to choosing between either her or her child. We are selfish beings and our survival instinct is much stronger than our compassion and our strife to do the right thing. Everyone would choose to be the killer than to be the prey.

Depends on what your belief system is. If you believe in life after death then be the victim. If you believe in Everything happens for a reason, then be the terrorist. Being the terrorist is enabling you to facilitate a persons end. Lets say the victim of terrorism would die by a gun shot, car bomb, or plane crash. The alternative if you had lived might be to die of cancer, heart attack, or hit by a car.

I believe that everything happens for a reason, there is no right or wrong. If you truly believe what you are doing is right depending on how you were raised, then nobody is going to change you belief system.

I read in the book conversations with god where the author asked the question of god if hitler went to hell. According to god he went to heaven because first of all there is no hell, second of all every person that died in the holocaust regardless of belief system felt no pain, realized there purpose on earth, and then experienced the unconditional love of god as it was meant to be. There was no sorrow, no regret, and no second thoughts of why me, or I wish I was still with my family experiencing hell on earth. Everything happens for a reason, some people facilitate for whatever reason, and others experience the outcome one way or the other.

I would rather be neither the terrorist nor the victim but rather be a person who asks others this question.

Wow how deep - after a few thoughts I think Id rather be the victim - because our world (rightly or wrongly) has so much hatred for the terrorist. Tough question!

If the victim is innocent then the terrorist either knows what he is doing is wrong or he is insane so would you rather be insane and armed and alive or sane but about to die?
I might chose to be the victim but that wouldn't stop me
from trying to kill your terrorist butt if I got the chance.
