It's more basic than that. Tax payers simply don't want to pay the cost of residents sending their children to private schools. The NEA didn't defeat vouchers ... tax payers did.

No - Utah voted to prevent a system that would result in money being dragged away from the public system towards wealthy private schools. Good for them.

Here is the truth about this. This legislation did not provide choice - that already exists in Utah. It provided money for wealthy people who already send thier children to private schools. A public petition demanded this issue be put to voters. Parents for Choice proved thier name to be hypocritical by trying to prevent the public having a choice in whether this system would be implemented.
Utah citizens, led by teachers concerned with the education of underpriveliged children, rejected any system that takes state money away from state schools and places it in the hands of the wealthy.
This was not a proposed end to socialized education if that is what you want to call it - it was an end to quality state education. Wisely the people of Utah overwhelmingly rejected this form of welfare for the wealthy.

This cracks me up! The people of Utah are adamantly opposed to socialized medicine, because they realize that it would cost them more money and time for less care, but they just voted to keep socialized education. To Hell with the kids!
Only in a state with a failing education system would people be stupid enough to vote the way Utah did!

The NEA doesn't concern itself with the education of children. It's goal is to further the interests of liberalism and educators. That has been their agenda for the past 40 years. The result has been that one of the most advanced societies in the world consistantly ranks among the most primitive societies in quality of education. It is the most shameful aspect of American life. Their steadfast refusal to relinquish power and support free market education through a voucher system proves beyond a shadow of a doubt where their loyalties lie.
