the 3 year old (she's 4 now) went missing for 2 hours while her mum & dad were out having a tapas. They eventually found her wandering in the park after a frantic search. Are the social services justified in their harsh action?

Completely justified, they lost one of their children, they endangered the child, therefore the child must be taken into care.Hang on though,if they get support from Gordon Brown..visit the Pope.and hire Clarence Mitchell, they will probably be rewarded for losing the child. They might even get enough money to pay for their mortgage.

I think anyone leaving their children alone - regardless of where they are or how secure it may be should have their children taken into care until they (the parents) can be trusted not to neglect their children.

Many children, even at such a young age, can surprise us all by knowing (somehow) as to what to do in an emergency - but that is rare - these children are innocent and see things in innocent ways - so what may seem a danger to us may not necessarily seem dangerous to a child.

Taking the children's welfare into account - which is priority - then it would be justified for social services to take action.

If this were to happen in another country (outside of the UK) - I can't see it being justified since it did not happen (or the parents were not caught) doing it in the UK. I don't believe no authority should be allowed to impose a (UK) law when something happened elsewhere - any legalities should be taken up with the authorities within that country.

I have a neighbour and this time last year when her wee girl was 4, I noticed the neighbour going to the shop and leaving the girl alone in the house for the 5-10 minutes it took her to get to the shop, buy her 6 pack or lager, and walk back. I asked about this on a parenting forum I went on back then full of hysterical hormonal but oh so middle class mummies. There was outrage. I was told to phone social services, report her to the police, contact the health visitor and the local authorities. Now what my neighbour done was wrong - there is no getting away from that.

Fast forward a few months and a sweet little girl goes missing when her parents leave her and her 2 younger siblings alone for the evening to have a meal and the same mothers were all 'there but for the grace of god go I' and so on and so forth.

Double standards?

Did your McMate tell you if the kids were checked on whilst the parents were away?

The penalty seems harsh, but without being in posession of all of the facts it is difficult to comment further.

Judging by your questions, you are clearly obsessed with the McCann's. Get some medical help before you suffer a severe breakdown

The social services were probably alerted to this family, before the above mentioned, totally fictitious and fabricated event. You are putting so much time and energy into 'this' that you are becoming obsessed. Go see doctor.
