It could be contributory. Kids see a violent act on tv then copy that same act later on. But the fault lies with the parent. It is the parents responsibility to (A) Police what the kid watches on TV and make sure it is suitable. ie dont let a kid age 10 watch a movie that is cert 18. and (B) If somehow the kid does manage to access unsuitable material and try to copy it, its the parents responsibility to discipline the kid and make sure they know that what goes on in th movies stays in the movies and is not for real life.
Violent kids are created by bad parents. If parents actually spent quality time with their kids rather than using the TV/DVD Player as a babysitter. Then we wouldnt have the problems that we have with feral kids.
Too many parents think that their responsibilities ended when they rolled over and lit up the post coital jazz fag

"What is going on" is that those who DESIRE to cause all the havoc and discord they possibly can will do and say anything necessary to cover it up and NOT be "found out" by those from whom they are trying to CONCEAL their actions and motives. It is a far cry from and an IMPOSSIBLE as well as LUDICROUS comparison to try to compare the Three Stooges, Tom & Jerry, the Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote along with Western {shoot 'em up} heroes with the VICIOUSNESS of the current time frame. Watching Tom Mix "shoot 'em up" all day long by firing 14 shots out of a SIX shooter at a gang of ruthless ne'er-do-wells is an IMPOSSIBLE "comparison" to something like Freddie Kreuger sneaking up on you ~ brandishing a BUZZ-SAW with which it is obvious that he plans on SAWING your HEAD OFF. Anyone who attempts to DRAW a suitable comparison between those is, simply, INANE. It does not even constitute child's play to DEMONSTRATE that HIGHLY IMPRESSIONABLE CHILDREN are INFLUENCED by what they see, hear and feel. One need only investigate {HONESTLY} any gang situation where any newcomer is influenced to emulate all of what they witness the other gangt members doing. It, then, takes, absolutely, NO ROCKET SCIENTIST to be able to easily discern that **YES** ~ the television and video violence OF TODAY, greatly, influence the youth of the day to follow in such footsteps of violence!!!

I think people are using it as a scapegoat and a reason to get rid of shows/videos that have "violence." It's simple really, if you don't want your kids watching it or if they are one of those kids that is influenced by anything (like if you told them the sky was purple with yellow stripes they would believe you) then they shouldn't watch the TV show/video that has violence.

I think it's a contributing factor for some, especially children
in their formative years.
Not all of us are equally susceptible so not all
are affected in the same way.
Just like subliminal ads don't work on everyone but there
are some people running to the corner shop at midnight to
buy quart of ice-cream.
