MY THANKS TO ALL .... for your suggestions. All good answers - some especially so. Seems that Australia, Canada, the Philippines and Ireland are favored as great places to visit. Plus, I've heard of the beauty of Greece from people who've been there. Choosing best answer was difficult, but one did stand out for the sentiment behind it.

I would recommend visiting impoverished areas just to get a pespective of the living conditions endured by less fortunate people. We visited Mexico across from San Diego and it really is an eye opener. I served in Vietnam and even though life was hard for the Vietnamese, I think Mexico is much worse, because of the mass differences in classes. I would love to go back to Vietnam today, because it is thriving and prosperous.

Well .... if I was going to travel I'd like some place small & warm with beaches so I could just sit down & relax ..... St Croix, Bermuda Trinidad come to mind. My brain stays so busy it would be nice to shut it off for a while.

Then ... on the other side if I wasnted to feed my passion for art & Museums ... it would be Paris .... and I wouldn't go with a group because I take too long in the face of beauty.

I travel all over the world in my job. I've been to just about every country in the world. I work with about 100 other people and one of our favorite topics of conversations is "What is your favorite country"?
Our favorite is Australia. Especially Tasmania. Almost everyone from my work honeymoons and vacations there. Everything from getting around, the sights, the weather, the accomodations, and especially the friendly Australians is the best.

In college I went to Leningrad now St. Petersburg and Estonia which were fabulous and beautiful and full of history and real people vs. France and Spain which were full of other tourists and set up for tourists and the people were "fake" and nobody liked us or wanted us there. They did like our money though.
