You can buy a paint in B&Q that 'stretches over small cracks and fissures.

If you have smooth ceilings you could consider artexing them all though that is now considered a bit old fashioned.

If the cracks are in long straight lines it could be that they weren't taped properly where each sheet of plaster board meets.

Painting the ceiling every time you get a crack is simply like papering over the cracks and not solving the problem.

Could do with a bit more info really like are the ceilings skimmed with plaster?

I have painted my ceiling with a flexible ceiling paint, rather than standard emulsion. I don't know if it's better as I never used ordinary emulsion.

Could be distemper. Get a good sealer for distemper or undercoat with an oil-based paint. That should do the trick.

lime washed means exactly that ..the ceiling has been painted in a lime wash ..it is highly acidy and nothing will stick to it...either scrape it all off ..or overboard it then skim it ..nothing you put on it will seal it long term ..
