In what context? Regarding the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam, and Judiasm) it generally refers to a non-believer, or a sinner. Within Karmic religions, it simply means a soul that has yet to transcened. But the seemingly infinite new age religions all have various takes on impurity and souls. You need to be more specific.

We are over the body/soul dichotomy in disciplines dealing with this (philosophy, the social sciences...). But if we were to believe it exists, there is no such thing as an impure soul. I think the usage of "impure soul" would define those a group assumes to be out of its beliefs and norms.

In monotheist religions, only Judaism still retains the idea of "impure persons" (called "goyim"), but in Islam and Christianity purity is the quality of all human souls. This, however, has nothing to do with whether a soul goes to hell or heaven because of its beliefs.

Though I have limited knowledge in that aspect, in Christianity, we believe in what may happen to the soul after the death of the body. The impure or pure souls have strong links with notions of an alterlife. An impure soul, in my opinion, is one of a person who had lived with negative emotions, who committed impurities or sins.

Edit: Webby, If Aussie really did that, if he really killed that poor little cat, then he has an impure soul....!! Aussie!! How could you do that!!???

To me an impure soul is one that is not true to herself, one that denies her true feelings and never finds out what happens when she acts upon them.

An impure soul is one who preys on others and does not give back at least as much as he takes. One who tries to get away with as much as he can rather than tries to do the best that he can for all involved.

But I don't think that's what most people who talk about impure souls mean by the term. I think they are referring to a soul that does not conform to their rigid idea of purity. One who does what she believe is right regardless of what these judgemental people who talk about impure souls believe. to me their idea of an "impure soul" is just pure stupidity.

Oh and by the way, Ghanouge has lost her mind. But in a good way!

I think all of us have impure souls, although we have lived a good and pious life.We already have born impure according with our religion.
Purity doesnt exist among the human beings, though we look for it.
I really should like to know a pure soul, but as i said, it doesnt exist.

I think an impure soul is one that denies the truth, or hides behind the mask of our heart! Cheers!

Hey there Webby,

I think a person with so much hate in his heart, one who can never forgive or forget, one who has no compassion for others and their troubles is definitely one who has an impure soul.

That is interesting, what brought that up? I have never heard the term before today, but wouldn't it refer to a person who is not wanting to be honest and true?
