well honey its illegal for them to sell out of date crap! go to your local health dept report to them the items you have bought and all and tell them what you know. also if your town has town meetings attend one and state to them the problem if more than just you complain to some higher officals maybe something will get did. and be careful buying out of date foods even can foods go bad, and they are usally way dated ahead so just think how old that stuff is. has any of it made u sick? god i hope not! please be careful. and seek some help with these people.

You could have them closed down if that is what you want. Report to your local Environmental Health Officers.
You can stop buying food which is outside its Best Before date if it is worrying you.
I never worry about Best Before - it is only a guide line (and in some cases one of the biggest cons ever conceived).
How on earth have I managed for 70 years with most of them without BB dates? I was born with three senses which tell me if fresh food is OK - If it looks alright, if it smells alright, if it tastes alright - it's alright. I guess my immune system must be pretty well developed since I've never had food poisoning from foods outside of BB dates. Even "Use by dates" - had some ham (in a sealed pack) a few weeks ago which was a month past its Use by date, - it passed all the tests.

First of all local Trading Standards, who'll do a suprise swoop.
Second don't ever shop there....and make sure you tell everyone you know how crap the shop is cause there's nothing better than word of mouth.
As for not wanting them to go out of business, they are obviously running this shop on the cheap. If a young baby was poisoned or died because of their lousy policy of seeling rotten food, how would that make you feel?If they can't give customers what they want and what they pay for, why should they carry on running a business?

Environmental Health Dept of your local Council should be able to help, or at least direct you to whoever you need. You must stop shopping there - but make the effort to put a stop to this practice.

If in UK contact local council and explain, they should send someone round from Health and Safety. It's no point in telling the shopkeeper again, and don't buy anything from them in future.

They shouldn't be selling out of date food even if marked, it's just not safe.

Report them to trading standards. Keep your receipt and the items you purchased as proof. Anyone who doesn't check the dates like you do could become seriously ill. I'd find somewhere else to shop if this happens regularly.
