hey i work for o2 so here goes dependent on weather your pay as you go or contract you have a lot of options. You can firstly decide what you want on the phone and then look at what meets the spec you want.
Secondly you could keep your old handset if you like it and move on to o2 simplicity basically what this is is a one month contract with mins and messages but you dont get a handset this is a one month rolling contract.
Other options include pay as you go upgrade if your on pay as you go you maybe entitled to a handset discount or call time discount, if your contract then 18 month can olny upgrade in 17 month if contract this one has loads of options loads of really good phones.
If your into pictures videos and want high quality i suggest iphone or lg viewty. pay as you go wise you have walkman phones g600, nokia 6300,
really depends what you want from your phone hope this gives you something to go on

im on o2 i like samsung phones the ug800 is nice its slim 2.
