Is a symbol just holds meaning, whether it be through material or visual stimulus, etc.

Movement would be a figure in the human behavior that represents life, whereas, motionlessness would be the opposite. Movement is associated with life without question. It inheritantly means life. Its attached with the natural instinct of recognizing a living specie.

An ampersand is a character that has meaning based on context. In the art of grammar it applies to sentence structure, in logic it applies to the structure of a logical truth comprised of atomic parts (which is a the supporting structure of any grammatical language).

Hope this helps.

Yes, an ampersand is a character.

Human behaviour could be characteristic, but character is a noun.

A character refers to an individual, not a type.

A character could represent a part of the human body, but a part of a human body would not be considered a character. For instance, you could draw a symbol for eye, and that in a simple style could be considered a character, like this emoticon of a smiling face, with the eyes and upturned mouth:

:)

A symbol could be a character, but not every symbol is a character. The following represents a straight face

But the symbol for a stop sign is not a character, but includes the characters we call letters, STOP.

This question reminds me of things I've read from Masonic web pages.

Do they things that enlightenment can be found through by making things so abstract that no sensible person has any hope of understanding what they are talking about?

Our tongue is a character of a sword that strikes forth truth and reason. Our behavior determines our character. An ampersand is a character in a computer.
