Within the atmosphere, filling the barrel with anything less dense than air - helium, hydrogen, or vacuum - will make the barrel lighter. In the absence of air pressure to provide buoyancy, the only thing you can put in the barrel to lighten it is a hole.

Put some fire ,then air inside become hot and goes out thus we reduce the weight ,like hot air ballons

put a tight seal on the top, put in helium. lighter if you can get it off the ground.
