or do they eventually get complicated by feelings or jealous partners.

It's possible, but very hard. Because of biology, we're hard wired to procreate with the opposite sex and eventually hormones take over. I think the only way somebody can be friends with the opposite sex is if they are sexually attracted to their same sex. Or have no sex drive whatsoever.

You know, it's hard. I never realised it but when I started dating my boyfriend he told me that guys really are never friends with girls unless they have some hope of getting with them eventually. I thought he was being rediculous and jealous but in the past two years we dated, my two best guy friends I've known forever both admitted they "secretly always have been in love with me and think I'm the most beautiful girl in the world". YEAH akward! And it was hard on me since I thought they really were into me as a friend, so we're not very close at all now just becuase I think it's better. But in most cases I've seen if a guy is really good friends with another girl or a girl with a guy something isn't quite right.

Most of my friends have always been guys. An ex boyfriend of mine has been a good friend for over 15 years.
