Too bad that the solutions to your questions are more complicated in this day and age.
You said that you are old school...and old school belongs to an older time where teachers, parents, and almost everybody got more respect from children than today.
But appearances can also be deceiving. I'm pretty shocked to hear how many middle-aged people were abused and/or mishandled as children. Back then, child protection was not at the forefront as it is today...and I'm happy that people are looking out for the welfare of children.
The main problem is that children rights have gotten a little out of hand. On the one hand, we are supposed to raise our children...but on the other hand, I feel threatened and intimidated when my children, (whom we nurture and feed), tell me that I'm not allowed to do something.
I believe that children need to be disciplined in school and that teachers need to have power in their classrooms...but unfortunately, it's a thing of the past.

Not in schools. Nobody should be able to hit a kid except the parents, maybe.
I guess that I am old school too because it seems that kids these days are way out of hand compared to other generations. Maybe i'm just old, because I can remember when I was a kid and my Grandmother rambling about what it was like in her days and how terrible kids were in my day.
Corporal punishment etches in the child's psyche what is good and bad, to the parent's descretion. A grounding or taking away TV/PC privleges doesn't have the same effect. As savy and advanced as we are, we are still animals. A parent has to sometimes display dominance on it's off-spring. Have you ever seen how a mother cat treats a kitten that gets alittle out of line or gets aggresive with her? Is that cruel? Corporal punishment is the natural way to instill in your off-spring what is right and wrong, or what behaviour is acceptable or not. Unfortunately you have abusive parents and parents with warped beliefs, and so we need laws against hitting your kids.

I do agree with you that children in power without any experience are becoming an unruly generation. I also believe our governement needs to stop interfering with family dynamics, but there still needs to be a way to determine and prevent true domestic violence. As for schools being allowed to hit a child, I do not agree with this, nor am I aware of schools that do so. I see kids in schools that are unruly and horrible towards teachers and each other.
Legislators keep making laws to protect children that are not doing what they are supposed to do and instead are creating a generation of violent offenders that are protected from consequences.

Amen to everything you said, those are my opinions too, the school is assuming the parents role in rearing children, it should be turned back over to the parents, I got spankings (not beatings) as a child and I turned out pretty good, Got a degree in medicine, raised 2 sons that both have good professional jobs, no scrapes with the law, I raised them the same way I was raised.

No, I don't feel corporal punishment should be allowed in schools. In the past when it was allowed, some children were actually beaten.
As for prayer in school. I personally would have not problem with it. However, some families do. For this reason praying should be done in the home and at their place of worship.

Put the gum you were chewing on the tip of your nose is a good one,but Hit on the back of the hand with a ruler that was the iceberg that mess the rest Today everyone is so inform of abuse that any indication of it is a cause for legal action. Time change and laws change. good luck now stand up and sit down several times rapidly with your arms straight out at your sides and do not forget the gum in your nose. enjoy the good memories is a good exercise training for stress anyway. good luck

We can not trust our schools with that authority.
teachers dating thirteen year old students, teachers seeking to be aloud to carry guns at school and the current struggle against no child left behind which requires real standards.
It is not however the grand summation point you are making it out to be in your elaboration.
