How do you get back to sleep?

Every night. I just sit on the edge of my bed and ask myself, if I asked the Seniors, what would they do, then I give myself an answer, I think you people would give me and go back to sleep. If I didn't have you wonderfully caring people here, I don't know what I would be doing. Well, I can surmise, but I wouldn't ever do that.

I'm famous for doing that! I get home at 5 pm from work and usually am through dinner by 6:30 - spend time on the PC, then move to the couch to watch TV....often fall asleep around 8 or 8:30, wake up at midnight or 1 a.m.....sometimes I can go back to sleep - others I just put something inane on the TV and 'zone'...eventually I fall asleep. Pain in the neck isn't it?

I used to do that often, now I rarely go to bed before midnight. Sometimes I still wake up in the middle of the night. I usually turn the tv on and watch one of the old shows on and I fall back asleep. Reading also makes me sleepy. If I'm to hot or cold I can't sleep, so I change the room temperature or add/take away covers.

I get up and have a wander around, sit and read a book, play with the computer, maybe have a drink of water and a pee and go to bed an hour later. Usually fall asleep straight away.

What doesn't work is staying in bed. Sometimes it's enough just to wander around for 5 minutes.

I also find if I'm feeling sleepy in the evening a walk around the block will either wake me up or confirm it's bedtime. Even a walk around in the ad break will carry me through to the end of the program instead of dozing off in the middle (hate that, miss the end...).

Yes, I do that quite frequently. If I feel like i am not going to be able to go back to sleep, I make the best of it and try to get a few things done around the house or even run to the 24 hour grocery store.But, if it is necessary for me to try to get some more rest, I usually take a warm shower and head back to bed with a book. My eyes get drowsey pretty quick!

I start to fold around 10pm. Sometimes I go to bed, and
sometimes not, depending on how tired I am. I fall asleep pretty quickly, but then wake up around 3, 4 or 5a.m. and can't always get back to sleep. I'll get up, go downstairs and get a drink of ice water. I sit in the living room, finish the
water and then go back to bed. Seems that the glass of
water helps.

I wake up several times during the night every night. I've gotten in the habit of leaving the TV on, so I just watch some boring show. Nothing too exciting...usually the History Channel or National Geographic channel. Before long, I'm snoozing again.

I usually go to bed pretty late so I wake up at 5 am. I used to watch this minister from Arkansas but now I just get up and answer questions until I get sleepy again. Or I do a lot of reading-all those books I should have read when I was younger.

I can take naps through the day if I'm tired, and still fall asleep within short minutes of laying down at night. And when I wake up through the night (usually bathroom breaks) all I have to do is lay my head back down, and remark to myself how warm and cosy it is under the covers...and next thing I know I'm waking up in the morning.

If you are having trouble getting to sleep, try visualizing yourself in a warm comfortable place...a deserted tropical beach with the ocean waves washing on the shore just beyond my feet is a favourite of mine...of course it is only warm enough in my imagination to make me comfortable (not hot).
