Deuterium(symbol D) is an isotope of hydrogen.

Which formula is incorrect for a deuterium compound?

(1) CD4
(2) C2D5OD
(3) CaOD
(4) DCl

The answer is (3)..why? Please explain..thanks.

CaOD is an ionic compound.
Since Ca is in group 2, it forms Ca2+ ions.
However, there is only 1 OD- ion.
Ca2+ would not have a full octet structure (since there is only 1 "extra" electron donated to it) so, CaOD is unstable and does not exist.

3 is uncorrect either CaO or Ca(OH)2 . with the false Ca OD there would be a odd number of electrons which is not allowed for a stable molecule
