Why is it when someone asks a question about assaulting women (ie throwing eggs at them, slamming a door on their face, or hitting them with a ruler) its funny, but a question about kicking a guy in the balls isnt?

and to clarify, I find neither funny. I find them both to be at best immature and childish reactions and at worst physical assault.

my examples of "funny" assault against women comes from questions that have been posted on this forum in the last week. It also comes from months worth of the same posters who find these things funny saying that kicking men is assault.
Gnu, you are awesome. I dont agree with everything you say, but you are still awesome.
Guns_fan, if half of what you say is true, you will eventually end up in jail and I dont think any of us will miss you.

Neither is funny: both are asinine. The ONLY reason I can POSSIBLY see for a double-standard, at least here, is that some feminists portray men and insensitive brutes, so when they make light of pain and violence, they forfeit any claim they had to the "moral high ground". But then those anti-feminists who make the laughable claim that science proves women are more violent ought to be outraged when men make such jokes.
Making light of violence in these discussions, by either side, is both offensive and completely counter-productive.
EDIT
blushes. aww, thanks. I quite enjoy your contributions as well. Always thoughtful.

As others have answered above, violence isn't ever funny. What I've observed here related to people thinking it's "funny" to hurt each other is 1) cognitive immaturity, children who haven't a clue about the reality of pain, akin to the problem of young people not fully comprehending their own mortality. They simply aren't developed cognitively enough to separate the abstraction of cartoon physics from reality physics. They actually think that after they crash their cars into a telephone pole that they're going to "regroup" and drive off like they do in their video games.
2) emotional immaturity, children who haven't learned to keep their hands to themselves, yet, and those who may be growing up in violent homes and are getting slapped around a lot themselves. That's all they know so far when it comes to coping skills.
3) pent-up anger and frustration, not just from some trumped-up "gender" rumble but from disturbing currents in our society, including 9/11, a war that's been going on during a large part of young people's lives, and economic crunches hitting some segments of society right now more so than others with foreclosures and layoffs and money getting tighter, and from unrealistic, unattainable consumerism expectations propagated by advertising and such. Like the commercial says, "I want it ALL!", but, few are ever going to get it "all". People turn to violence in humor, like slapstick, when times are tough. It's insecurity, a nervousness, a fear-based expression of humor.
I would like to strongly remind people that kicking or hitting males in their "balls" is extremely dangerous. Boys and men can be seriously harmed this way, requiring surgery and possibly suffering infertility. How anyone in their right mind would EVER think making another human being infertile could possibly be construed as "funny" is like way over my tolerance levels for stupidity.

Personally I do not think either is funny, I am sure woman will chuckle at the guy getting kicked in the balls. And men will chuckle about any of the above happening to a woman, I think that this is because Woman can not experience what it is like to be kicked in the balls and have no basis to form the same opinion of it as a man who can experience it. Men also do not experience the same things as woman and once again have no basis to form an opinion the way that a woman would.

It seems your ''double standards'' is actually one... But it's the other way around! (As can be seen by some of the above posters.)
You can even turn on your TV and see how kicking a man in portrayed as funny, but assaulting a woman never is.
P.S. Hitting someone with a ruler? Wtf?!
P.S.S. Kicking a guy is much worse than throwing eggs at someone or hitting them with a ruler. I didn't know getting hit with a ruler could cause you to pass-out.

when you use the term assault I don't think many people find it funny, the problem is that when people laugh at this stuff, they don't use the word "assault" and put into another context it, to them is for whatever reason... comical... they just don't take it seriously... given my 'unique' perspective I've heard guys make all kinds of horrific "smack my b*****" types of jokes that I honestly never understood, most of these guys, I do not think, would act on these ideas, but found them funny enough to talk about...

Don't ask me. Another personal favourite: the whole Oprah schoolgirl abuse scandal. The only reason anyone is even remotely interested is because:
- sexual assault allegations (involving the behaviors of a female school staff member)
- an American celebrity is connected to the school
Nobody gives a rat's a$$ about the kids who are regularly beaten in Africa and all around the world in schools (and at home). Cultural attitudes encourage the behavior - it's completely NORMAL to the abusers and THAT'S what needs to be addressed through education. On this forum we have the bloodthirsty hypocrites who howl and rage with richeous indignation about the accused in the Oprah case: 'WITCH, WITCH...'
while meanwhile...
"THE NATURE AND EXTENT OF CORPORAL
PUNISHMENT – PREVALENCE AND
ATTITUDINAL RESEARCH"
East and Southern Africa summary prepared by the
Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of
Children (www.endcorporalpunishment.org), June 2007
Includes information on South Africa - where the 'Oprah school' incident allegedly occurred. Abuse happens in South African schools ALL THE TIME; it's just how things are done, how teachers discipline and 'get the point accross' to...ahem..."wayward" students. When queried about it, teachers (and parents) often say they do it because they were unaware there were other ways to discipline children.
edit:
I really didn't want to talk about genitalia - so I thought
'Yahoo G&WS - hypocrisy and stupidity - general'
would do allright.
The hypocrisy and breathtaking level of stupidity on this forum can be shocking and frustrating, I wholeheartedly agree.

I would like to know why trolls can say the most vile things against women and feminism in general and certain posters in particular, but when they're given a tiny little dose of their own medicine they freak out hysterically and block you?
And you may not have even replied to something THEY said!
You know who you are, you cowards.

What?! I've never found questions about assaulting women funny and I don't know anyone that finds that funny. If the people you associate with laugh at that kind of stuff, I'm worried.

Personally I have never thrown an egg at a woman. I have never slammed a door in one's face, or hit one with a ruler. I actually think a woman kicking a mans, manhood is rather funny. I guess it goes back to the days when women were considered the weaker of the sexes. It's like a David and Goliath thing. Like David, a weaker woman could always bring the strongest man down with a good swift kick in the no no region. As for hitting a woman with an egg, thats a high school idiot prank and not funny. Hitting a woman with a ruler is a religous school nun's punishment and not funny. Slamming a door in a womans face as done on TV in SITCOM's can sometimes be funny, but not in real life.
